Foster Military Pets Program:
RAIN has joined the team of Pedigree, Winn Dixie, and Tampa Bay Humane Society to help our troops in their time of need. Together with these two great companies, and one of our sister rescues, RAIN assist military people, who are being deployed out of the country for active duty, help find a foster parent for their pet. The RAIN Foster Coordinator is located in Nassau County, but has enlisted foster parents and applicants for the program throughout the entire United States. RAIN successfully matches pets with fosters until our service men and women return home to them safely. RAIN is proud and honored to have been bestowed this task in helping our country and the people who serve it.

RAIN Train
RAIN Train Transport/Rescue Program: Transporting animals from local Northeast Florida animal controls, along with many of the strays within Nassau County, onto Humane Societies and SPCAs in the State of Florida that are in need of adoptable animals. Many of these receiving rescues are located in areas where strict spay/neuter laws and low-cost spay/neuter clinics exist. This program helps to save hundreds of lives every year.
When RAIN Humane Society, SPCA started the RAIN Train program May 2009, we had hopes of helping as many pets in our community move onto brighter futures of adoption. Over the past couple of years, the program has assisted the local Northeast Florida animal controls and Nassau County residents successfully transport over 2000 animals onto major Humane Societies and SPCAs in the southeastern United States for re-homing. The program has grown from a rented van, to owning our own van, and obtaining a donated RV for larger transports. New kennels and travel gear has been purchased for the animal’s comfort, along with a wonderful team of people which has been established to help ready the pets for the big trips.
A majority of the pets do stay within the state of Florida going to the Tampa Bay, and Ft. Lauderdale areas. However, RAIN has transported to Charlotte, NC, Atlanta, GA, and Raleigh, NC.. Our drivers will practically go anywhere, if it means saving a life…!!!! With community support, RAIN looks forward to expanding this pro-gram to save as many lives as we can.
Educational:
Educational Program: RAIN has been granted approval from the Nassau County School Board and several of the private schools within Nassau County to present to the 5th graders our Responsible Pet Education Program. Subjects which are covered in the 30 minute presentation includes, basic pet care, vet visits, hurricane preparedness, encountering wildlife, Rabies protocol, volunteerism, and the importance of spay/neuter. RAIN is in the process of producing a DVD of the program, so we may expand the program to all students in the 4th, 5th, and 6th grades of Nassau County and its surrounding areas.
Care for the animals in residence:
We have purchased our 13 acres and have made Callahan our headquarters and forever home along with being a safe haven for the animals that are entrusted to the
RAIN organization. On the premises, we have 13 kennels, 2 puppy corrals, 1 free-roaming cattery, a 1000square foot recovery unit with 20 recovery kennels, a horse corral, a beautiful pond for K-9 swimming and 9 fenced acres with endless room for exercise and play. The shelter houses up to 60-100 animals at any given time.
Houses 4 Hounds:
Providing free dog houses to pets that have no shelter.
RAIN has teamed up with the
Nassau County Animal Services' Animal Control Officers, to help provide resources to our county residents who may need this one time " hand up" assistance program.
RAIN will also help provide food, both for domestic and livestock animals, and we encourage the use of runners for the pets instead of chains, and harnesses verses collars. Through this team effort, pets all over our county who live outdoors, will receive shelter from the elements, food in their tummies, and a place to call home.

Operation RAINDROP: Assist in DROPPING the intake of unwanted animals and euthanasia in our community, through sterilization. RAIN utilizes the new
First Coast No More Homeless Pets spay/neuter clinic located in Jacksonville, Florida. RAIN advertises/promotes the service, arranges appointments and transport animals to and from the clinic, for the residents of Nassau County, along with Camden, Glynn, and Charlton Counties of Georgia. RAIN also offers additional 24-48 hours of recovery at the RAIN recovery unit in Callahan at no cost. The inception of this program has prevented many unwanted animals being born, with a high possibility of being euthanized.
